In 2016, Jay met with a longtime friend who is the lead partner at a successful plaintiff’s firm. This friend sought to challenge Jay’s problem-solving acumen in a new space – Legal Technology.

This lawyer friend was using the best legal software available, but the demands of that system were overwhelming his staff as they prepared documents and video for depositions and trial. His challenges were compounding with the addition of a huge new case.

Jay, excited to get an inside look at the legal industry, agreed to get involved. As he investigated the legal technology market, he was surprised that he couldn’t find an existing system that met his vision. He found only siloed suppliers and disconnected pieces of software with narrow specialties – which was exactly why his friend was struggling.

Jay handpicked a development team, and Litigen was born… into a trial by fire. Within a few months, the Litigen team had a working prototype that replaced his friend’s existing workflow for that big new case.

Litigen empowered depositions later, hundreds of thousands of document pages and hundreds of hours of video were leveraged to tell a compelling story to the jury. The result was our first victory in the form of a $76MM jury verdict.
